Afghans in Australia comprise persons whose either or both parents were born in Afghanistan. This includes people who were born in Afghanistan and later in their lives migrated to Australia and their children who were born in Australia. Based on this definition, in 2006 the estimated total number of persons with Afghan ancestry in Australia, in other words the Afghan Community, is 22,600. This number was 2,972 in 1986 and 7,703 in 1996. It shows a growth rate of 10% on average per year during the last 20 years. This is for sure one of the fastest growth of communities in Australia during this period. Furthermore, the number of Afghan migrants grew even faster during this period, at 12% average annual, second fastest growth for any community in Australia, behind those who were born in Sudan (ABS 2006).

افغانها دراَسترالیا شامل کسانی اند که حد اقل یکی از والدین اَنها در افغانستان تولد شده باشند. این گروه شامل کسانی اند که در افغانستان تولد شده و بعداَ به اَسترالیا مهاجرت نموده و همچنان اطفال اَنها که در اَسترالیا متولد شده اند. بر اساس این تعریف در سال ۲۰۰۶ تعداد مجموعی افرادی با نسب افغانی در اَسترالیا به ۲۲۶۰۰ نفر میرسید. در سال ۱۹۸۶ این تعداد ۲۹۷۲ نفر و در سال ۱۹۹۶ به تعداد ۷۷۰۰ نفر بودند که یک رشد متوسط سالانه ی ده درصد را طی بیست سال اخیر نشان میدهد. به یقین این رقم یکی از سریعترین میزانهای رشد جمعیتهای مهاجر مقیم اَسترالیا در این دوره محسوب میگردد. افزون بر این، تعداد مهاجرین افغان طی این مدت از این هم سریعتر، ۱۲ درصد، افزایش یافت که دومین رشد سریع بعد از سودانی ها را نشان میدهد (اداره احصاییه ی اَسترالیا ۲۰۰۶).

Nevertheless, this rapid growth rate will slow down and eventually stabilise during the next 10 years. Drastic reduction in the number of Afghan refugee and humanitarian migrants to Australia due to the gradual stabilisation of the political and security conditions in Afghanistan will play a major role in this process. Despite this slowing down of the growth rate, the size of the Afghan community in Australia will experience an increase of almost 63% during the next 10 years and will grow to 25,500 in 2008 and almost 37,000 persons in the year 2016.

اما باید متوجه بود که این میزان رشد بسیار سریع در سالهای بعدی کند شده و طی ده سال اَینده استقرار خواهد یافت. کاهش سریع در تعداد پناهندگان افغان و مهاجرینی که تحت برنامه بشردوستی به اَسترالیا مهاجرت مینمایند نظر به بهبود شرایط سیاسی و امنیتی در افغانستان نقش اساسی را در این جریان بازی خواهد کرد. با وجود کاهش در میزان رشد، تعداد مجموعی جامعه ی افغانها در اَسترالیا یک افزایش ۶۳ درصد را طی ده سال اَینده تجربه نموده و به تعداد ۲۵۵۰۰ نفر در سال ۲۰۰۸ و به تعداد تخمینی ۳۷۰۰۰ نفر در سال ۲۰۱۶ افزایش خواهد یافت.
In 2006, of the estimated 22,600 persons with Afghan ancestry in Australia, about 4,034 or 18 % are estimated to have been born in Australia. The majority have migrated to Australia since mid 1980s. In fact before 1981, there were only 228 persons living in Australia who were born in Afghanistan. The trend of Afghan arrivals in Australia, directly correlate to the social, political and security situation in Afghanistan.

در سال ۲۰۰۶ از تعداد تخمینی ۲۲۵۹۸ نفرکه در اَسترالیا دارای نسب افغانی هستند در حدود ۴۰۰۰ نفریا ۱۸ فیصد در اَسترالیا تولد شده و اکثریت افغانها از اواسط سالهای ۱۹۸۰ به اینطرف به اَسترالیا مهاجرت نموده اند. در حقیقت در سال ۱۹۸۱ صرف ۲۲۸ نفرکسانی در اَسترالیا زندگی میکردند که در افغانستان تولد شده بودند. جریان مهاجرت افغانها به اَسترالیا مستقیماَ به اوضاع سیاسی، اجتماعی و امنیتی در افغانستان ارتباط دارد.

Not surprisingly, New South Wales with Sydney as its Capital and Victoria with Melbourne as its Capital have been, like the bulk of other migrants, the destination for every 3/4th of Afghan migrants. An overwhelming majority of Afghan migrants have settled in these two major States. NSW is home for 10,200 (45%) Afghans while 7075 (31%) live in Victoria. Western Australia with 2400 persons (11%) is a distant third destination. Queensland with 1200 persons (5.5%), South Australia 1200 persons (5.3%) and the ACT with 340 persons (1.5%) make up the rest of the Afghan community population while the numbers settled in Tasmania and the Northern territory are negligible

قابل تعجب نیست که، همانند سایر مهاجرین، ایالت نیو ساوث ویلز که شهر سدنی مرکز اَن است و ایالت وکتوریا که شهر ملبورن مرکز اَن میباشد مقصد مهاجرت سه چهارم جمعیت افغانها را نیز تشکیل میدهند. اکثریت کامل افغانها در این دو ایالت مسکن گزین شده اند. در سال ۲۰۰۶ تعداد افغانها در نیو ساوث ویلز ۱۰۲۰۰ نفر (۴۵%) و در وکتوریا ۷۰۷۵ نفر (۳۱%) حساب شده است. همچنین در این سال در اَسترالیای غربی که مرکزاَن شهر پرث میباشد ۲۴۰۰ نفر افغان یا ( ۱۱%) زندگی مینمودند. در سال مذکور در کووینزلند۱۲۰۰ نفر، اَسترالیای جنوبی۱۲۰۰ نفر و کانبرا ۳۴۰ افغان مسکن گزیده اند.

The Afghan community’s population in Australia is a much younger population compared to the total migrant population (overseas born) in Australia, the total Australia born population and the total population of Australia as a whole. While those under the age of 50 constitute half of the total Afghan community, only 33% of the total Australian Population and a mere 14% of the total Australian migrant population are under the age of 50 years. Median age for persons with Afghan ancestry is 25 years where it is 29 for those born in Afghanistan and now living in Australia, 33 years for persons born in Australia, 37 years for the total population of Australia and 47 years for the total Australian migrant population. Median age is where half of the population is above and the other half is below that age. Nevertheless, the age structure of the Afghan Community in Australia is maturing. During the last 10 years, over 2.23 years have been added to the median age of the community.



از نظر سنی نفوس افغانهای مقیم اَسترالیا به مراتب جوانتر از مجموع نفوس اَسترالیا میباشد. در حالیکه اشخاص کمتر از سن ۵۰ مناصفه ی نفوس افغانهای اَسترالیا را تشکیل میدهد، صرفاَ ۳۳ درصد مجموع نفوس اَسترالیا کمتر از ۵۰ ساله میباشند. شاخص سن میانه (میدیان) برای نفوس افغانهای اَسترالیا ۲۵ سال است در حالیکه این رقم برای مجموع نفوس اَسترالیا ۳۷ سال میباشد. با وجود این ارزیابیها نشان میدهد که ساختمان سنی نفوس افغانها در حال تغییر بوده و طی ده سال گذشته ۲،۲۳ سال به سن میانه افغانهای اَسترالیا افزوده شده است.

During the last 10 years a flood of young male Afghan refugee arrivals have made the Afghan community a male oriented population. While in 1996 the number of males and females were almost equal, in 2006 there are 123 males for every 100 females in the Afghan community. With sex ratios of 143, 130 and 131 males per each 100 females, this disparity is more pronounced in the ages of 15 to 24, 25 to 49 and 50 to 64 years.

اَمدن سیلی از جوانان پسر پناهنده ی افغان طی ده سال گذشته جامعه ی افغانهای اَسترالیا را به یک جامعه یی مردانه مبدل ساخت به این معنی که در مقابل هر صد نفر زن افغان فعلاَ ۱۲۳ نفر مرد افغان در اَسترالیا زندگی مینمایند. این عدم تناسب بیشتر در گروههای سنی ۱۵ تا ۲۴ ساله ها، ۲۵ تا ۴۹ ساله ها و ۵۰ تا ۶۴ ساله ها مشهود است که در مقابل هر صد نفر زن افغان به ترتیب ۱۴۳ نفر، ۱۳۰ نفر و ۱۳۱ نفر مرد افغان در اَسترالیا زندگی مینمایند.

Majority of Afghans speak Dari at home (76%). About 17% speak pushtoo which is categorized as “Other” in Census reports. About 4.4% speak only English at home. More males are proficient in English than females. Of those in the community who do not speak well English 66% are females.

اکثریت (۷۶%) افغانهای مقیم اَسترالیا در منازل خود به زبان دری تکلم مینمایند. تعداد تکلم کننده گان به زبان پشتو ۱۷ فیصد است. مردان به مقایسه ی زنان بیشتر به زبان انگلیسی اَشنایی دارند. از جمله یی کسانیکه به انگلیسی بخوبی تکلم کرده نمیتوانند ۶۶ درصد اَنها را زنان تشکیل میدهند.

On average Afghan individuals earn much less income compared to the Australian population as a whole. In 1996, the median weekly individual income for persons with Afghan ancestry was $154 and for the total Australia population it was $329.

بصورت متوسط دراَمد افغانهای مقیم اَسترالیا کمتر از نفوس مجموعی اَسترالیا میباشد. در سال ۱۹۹۶ عاید میانه یی یک فرد افغان در یک هفته ۱۵۴ دالر بود به مقایسه ی ۳۲۹ دالر عاید میانه یی هفته وار یک فرد در اَسترالیا.
